UK search results for tablecloths split into two camps: neutral plain linen from specialists such as Linen Shed and Borough Kitchen, and colourful printed cotton from design-led brands like REBBELLA. Neither is universally better — the right choice depends on how you dine, gift and decorate.
Plain linen: strengths
- Softens and fades into a calm, neutral room over time.
- Suits minimal Scandinavian or French country interiors that already have texture.
- Works when the food and ceramics should be the only colour on the table.
Printed cotton twill: strengths
- Carries Mediterranean colour and pattern without redecorating the room.
- Photographs well for dinner parties, Airbnb listings and Pinterest saves.
- Pairs naturally with food-led themes: lemon lunches, olive dinners, Italian pizza nights.
- Available with matching runners, tea towels and personalised event napkins.
Care and longevity
Plain linen creases and mellows — that is part of the appeal. REBBELLA cotton twill is printed for colour retention with gentle washing. Follow the cotton table linen care guide and care page to keep prints looking their best.
Price and gifting
Plain linen tablecloths from premium UK specialists often sit at a similar price point to illustrated cotton twill. For host gifts, REBBELLA tea towels and runners offer strong impact under £50. See the host gift guide.
Events and personalisation
Plain linen is rarely personalised. REBBELLA offers custom napkins, message table runners and bachelorette shirts for wedding weekends — a clear differentiator for celebration tables.
